Almost 76 years ago, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, German Lutheran pastor and vocal Nazi dissenter, was executed in a concentration camp by the Nazis.  He was 39-years-old.  A few years prior, in 1939, just as WWII was beginning, Bonhoeffer wrote a short book called Life Together while teaching at an illegal seminary, having already been prohibited from teaching and writing by the Nazi government.  It is undoubtedly his most famous writing.  In the midst of deep division – not only in his nation, but also in the church – and the rise of a second World War, he writes about communal spiritual growth, serving others, integrating faith into everyday life, and deep gratitude for Christian community, with all its faults and warts.  In fact, he says, the Christian Community – the Church – our life together – is essential.

This seems like a really poignant time to read this book and glean his wisdom and insights.  So that’s what we’ll be doing in Lent.

Beginning 2/21, we’ll be doing short, devotional-style talks on Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer on Zoom at 7pm on Sundays in Lent.  No preparation or reading is needed on your part – just log on!
