Creek Clean Up: April 25

Almost 5 months ago, Hurricane Helene struck our area with devastating impact. But there are ways to help in recovery. Join a clean-up effort on 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟓, 𝟏𝟐:𝟑𝟎-𝟒:𝟑𝟎𝐩𝐦 along the banks of Howard's Creek across from the State Department Garage on 194 to beautify our community.

Participants will 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐋𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 (1030 Big Hill Road, Boone NC 28607) 𝐚𝐭 𝟏𝟐:𝟏𝟓𝐩𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞. 𝐀 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐋𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡.

Pastor Jonathan Weant (St. Mark’s Lutheran) is organizing this joint effort, along with Bethany Lutheran Church, the broader Green Valley community, and Mountain True, the parent organization for riverkeepers of watersheds in Western NC.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬:

• 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝟏𝟒-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬-𝐨𝐥𝐝, and 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟖-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬-𝐨𝐥𝐝 must be 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐝 by a 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭/𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧.
• All participants will need to 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 provided by Mountain True 𝐮𝐩𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥.
• 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞: gloves, trash bags, and other protective equipment along with some hand tools such as shovels, loppers, hand saws, rakes, etc., However feel free to bring your own if you would like.
• 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫: 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝-𝐭𝐨𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐬, 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐬 (and waders if you have them), and bring drinking water, snacks, and perhaps a change of clothes for afterward in case you get wet or dirty.
